BUT instead of using water filtration technobabble – tech talk, parts per million of contaminants like lead, arsenic, etc. – I did something different...

I was in commercial real estate at the time, on the phone constantly with tenants, building owners, title companies.

At the end of every conversation, I'd say:

"Hey, can I ask you about something that has nothing to do with what we've been talking about? It's about the water you drink..."

Everyone said yes. Then I'd ask:

"OK, so do you drink the ka-ka water out of the faucet, or do you drink the bottled water for a buck a gallon?"

They'd giggle and tell me which one.

For the bottled water drinkers: "If you could get the same quality for a nickel a gallon, would you want to test it?"

6 out of 10 said yes. About half of those were bought.

For the faucet water drinkers: They'd ask what was so bad about it. I'd tell them about the bleach in the water - how it dries your skin, especially in the shower.

Here's what really got their attention: I talked about the problem I didn't want to have myself - showering and washing in bleach water while spending thousands going to spas like the Golden Door and hundreds on hair and skin care each month.

Why would I poison my skin in the shower, then spend a fortune trying to fix it?

When they heard my why, they thought, "Yeah, me too. Never thought about that."

About half of those folks bought too.
